Chapati also known as Roti is a flat bread that is often served with curry.
What You’ll Need - Makes 8-10 Chapati
2 Cups All Purpose Flour (and more for kneading and shaping)
100g Butter
Salt
1.5 Cups Hot Water
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Add salt to the flour in a large bowl.
Melt the butter and add half of it to the hot water. Leave the rest for later.
Add the water in halves into the flour and combine. Once all the water has been incorporated into the water, tip over onto a floured surface.
Flour your hands and knead the dough until smooth.
Divide the dough into half. Divide each half into 5 equal parts.
Form the dough pieces into balls by rubbing them in between your palms in a circular motion. (Make sure your hands are floured at all times)
Take each ball and roll it out with a rolling pin into a circle. Repeat this for all the dough pieces. Sprinkle Flour generously onto of each circle before putting another one on top of it so they don’t stick.
Let’s Get Cooking - 15 Minutes
Heat a dry pan at medium heat.
Add one rolled out dough and allow to cook. You’ll know it’s time to turn when bubbles start to form. Cook the other side, remove and place on a plate.
Brush the cooked chapati with the melted butter we kept.
Repeat this for all the roti.
Serve warm.
